Daphne Dail
I co-own MudFire Studios in Decatur with my partner Deklan Ranlett. Together, we mentor young people in the Ceramics Arts who are just starting their careers in a mentorship program that focuses on underserved community members.
My work occupies a mostly functional space as I find these objects to be a fantastic vehicle for celebrating and connecting with our everyday rituals. I believe in the power and value of handmade, and the very real need of the artist's intervention in our day to day experiences.
My hopes are to bring about a sense of reverence to my subject matter - to both allow you a peek into my process of making the piece as well as develop your own magic through the use of it. I'm passionate about both making and teaching - and find the two to be inseparable. Working in community, and providing space for others to learn to do so as well, has been a deeply nourishing artistic practice in its own right.
I am at my best, and squeezing the most out of my creative endeavors, when I'm able to co-create and work with other artists.
